London - A fashion chain has been forced to stop selling a children’s top – because it looks like a German concentration camp outfit.

The ‘sheriff’ pyjama top from Zara features blue horizontal stripes and a six-pointed yellow badge. But it bears a strong resemblance to the uniforms worn by Holocaust victims in the Second World War, portrayed in the 2008 film The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

Critics took to social media to point out how the “badge” looked similar to the Stars of David the Nazis forced Jews to wear on their striped outfits.

One Twitter user wrote “What were the designers thinking?” alongside a link to the top on Zara’s website.

The retail chain, which includes the Duchess of Cambridge among its customers, apologised for selling the tops, made in Turkey.

A spokesman said: “It was inspired by the sheriff’s stars from the classic Western films. Nevertheless, we can understand the sensitive context.”
