Models in cheeky outfits, swim wear, cowboy gear, feather ensembles and lingerie twisted, turned and strutted their stuff at the Tshwane Events Centre this week.

The models – 25 girls and two boys aged between 13 and 25 – were showcasing the lessons they have learnt during a three-month course held at modelling agency Model Management.

They met every Tuesday and had lectures and demonstrations on how to become a model.

They were taught grooming, make-up, how to walk the ramp and how to pose for photoshoots. And on Tuesday night the models showed what they had learnt in front of an enthusiastic crowd, including family, friends and talent scouts.

“They wore their own clothes and did their own make-up, did their own hair and planned their own choreography,” Model Management’s Yolande de Villiers said. “That is what they had learnt during the three months. And it showed!”

Judges on the night included two of Model Management’s products, Miss Bikini SA 2011, Sasha-Lee Gush, and 2010 Manhunt Winner Jacques Sagen.

Patrick Hlahla from print media sponsor Pretoria News was also on the panel as was Fashion Group SA regional manager Eleanor Ford.

The judges scored the models on their performance on the night, keeping a keen eye out for attitude, pose and posture.

The models showcased casual wear, smart casual wear and smart clothes as they walked on and off stage to loud cheers.

De Villiers said: “The objective is to produce new models for our agency.”

The sessions were filmed for a TopTV reality show which is likely to be aired in October.

“Cameras were rolling throughout the course and they got comfortable doing their moves in front of them and also on the ramp,” she said. The models introduced themselves to the crowd – some saying they were students at different schools across Pretoria and listing hobbies and activities they enjoyed. Others enthused about their love for modelling and waxed lyrical about feeling beautiful and brimming with confidence.

The owner of Model Management Laurie Botha has been in the modelling industry for 20 years and in 2003 was appointed by Fashion TV in Paris to produce and direct the first-ever FTV live fashion shows in Pretoria. - Pretoria News
