Durban - The phenomenal launch of the South Africa Indian Film and Television Awards (Saifta) in Durban earlier in the year revealed one of fashion’s most prominent alliances.

David Tlale and Haroun Hansrot may be from proverbial “opposite sides of the track”, but each is a South African fashion industry giant in his own right.

Both are media darlings with a flair for the fabulous.

And the dynamic duo are set to dazzle at Saifta in September.

The Mercury caught up with them after their recent shopping expedition to India to find the most exquisite fabrics, sexy silhouettes and on-trend designs.

This is the glamorous Great Gatsby with a twist, and the lovely Zimbali Forest Suites in Ballito provided the ideal location to shoot the up-and-coming model, Sune Botes, in the latest offerings from the powerhouse pair.

GETTING THE LOOK RIGHT

True 1920s vintage comes at a fair price as finding original outfits in mint condition can be difficult and costly.

We suggest shopping around as many people, from jewellers and shoe designers to milliners and retailers, have gone gaga over the Gatsby look.

If you’re looking for inspiration, think dropped-waist, art deco flapper dresses, or A-line shifts; show some ankle; and bob your hair. Guys, think colourful bow ties, dinner suits and classic striped jackets.
