Pretoria - SA Fashion Week (SAFW) is back in the city soon with the Brooklyn Face of Fashion and a pop-up SAFW show from August 28 to 31.

Entries for the Face of Fashion open to women from the age of 16 to 22 only, close on July 31. Sixteen finalists will be chosen and will participate in live model pop-ups at SAFW which is supported by Edgars and takes place at Brooklyn Mall.

Prizes include a R10 000 Brooklyn Mall gift voucher, representation from Ice Models Joburg, and a guaranteed spot in the top 20 of Top Model South Africa.

Winning models have a chance to participate in the Fashion Week Autumn/Winter collections.

SAFW has been the platform to launch the careers of many designers and it has also created a buyer culture in South Africa.

Top SA designer labels taking part include Jacques van der Watt (Black Coffee), Terrence Bray, Anna-Mari Pretorius (Kottin & Twille), Maya Prass, Sam Bulgin, Roman Handt, David Tlale, Ella Buter (Superella), Lisa Jaffe (Guillotine), Stephen Quatember, Tiaan Nagel, Katherine Mortner, Anisa Mpungwe (Loin Cloth & Ashes) and Zano Sitheto (Skorzch).

New is the first SAFW Menswear competition which recognises the increased interest in men’s fashion. It is open to menswear designers who have not been in the industry for more than seven years and offers to launch their brands into the local fashion design industry.

Also open is the SAFW Renault New Talent Search for emerging designers in the South African fashion industry, also with no more than seven years of experience.

“The SAFW Renault New Talent Search identifies South Africa’s hottest design talent, but also provides the winning designer with a springboard (and therefore competitive business advantage) into SA’s vibrant fashion arena” says fashion icon Dion Chang.

The SAFW Designer Pop Up Shop 2014 is returning to Brooklyn Mall and is the only pop up shop of its kind in South Africa, set in a high-end retail space. Running concurrently with SAFW, Shoppers can get their hands on the first of summer, with South African designer pieces.
