The Dresses for Lives campaign for 2015 is under way. Here is the Milk Matters guide to how it works.

How does ‘Dresses for Lives’ raise money?

Supporters of Milk Matters as well as the Milk Matters Team will be wearing dresses every day this December and asking others to sponsor them for each day they wear a dress.

Is there a minimum amount I must donate?

No, every cent helps babies just as every drop of milk does. Every drop counts. Every cent counts.

Who do I pay my sponsorship money/donation to?

These funds are paid directly to Milk Matters either via the Milk Matters Payfast account or directly into the Milk Matters bank account.

What will the money be used for?

The money raised will be used to fund the most urgent expenses Milk Matters has at the time. It may be marketing material (no marketing, no donors, no milk for prems!), or essential equipment we could not otherwise afford, or other running expenses critical for the operation of our milk bank. Careful consideration will be given to make sure optimum use is made of every cent. Every cent counts.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, Milk Matters is a registered Non Profit Organisation (NPO 053-121) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930 024 054) and so Section 18A Donations Receipts are issued. Please make sure you send us proof of payment along with your full name and postal address so we can issue your Donations Receipt.

Do skirts count?

No, sorry, it dilutes the effect if skirts are allowed. Dresses it is.

I have to wear pants/skirts for work.

That is fine. As soon as you can choose what to wear, wear your dress.

Is it possible to take part if I have only a few dresses and can’t buy more?

Yes. You do not need to have lots of dresses to take part. Wearing a few dresses often is fine – it could even open conversations about what you are doing, which is an important part of the campaign i.e. creating awareness. Embrace the challenge and get creative. It is summer in South Africa so your dresses should dry quickly for a rapid wash and wear turnover.

I am not a dress person. Is there another way I can help?

Yes. You can make a donation or sponsor one of the Milk Matters team as we are all wearing dresses this December. You can also spread the word and encourage others to join in.

I don’t have breastfeeding friendly dresses. Can my baby wear dresses instead of me to support ‘Dresses for Lives’?

Absolutely.

Can I as a man/transgender person who would like to support ‘Dresses for Lives’, wear dresses and take part?

Certainly.
