What were you thinking, Dame Vivienne?

London - She infuriated many in Britain earlier this year by saying the country has never dressed so badly.

And one can only wonder if Dame Vivienne Westwood was trying to prove her point as she took to the catwalk on Sunday.

The 71-year-old combined the shortest of shorts with clumpy platforms, chunky socks, a sequinned hat and a ragged T-shirt proclaiming “climate revolution”.

If that wasn’t bizarre enough, she topped it all off by drawing a crude moustache and monacle on her face with black marker pen – and at one point had what appeared to be a leather whip in her mouth.

While front row guests at her London Fashion Week show applauded wildly as she strolled past, one can hardly imagine the look taking off on the high street.

The eccentric designer had refused to talk about her collection before the event, saying she was more concerned about the environment.

“I can’t talk about fashion,” she said. “I’m too preoccupied with using it as a vehicle for talking about climate change, which is an incredible danger.”

In February, Dame Vivienne declared: “People have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress?…? Everybody looks like clones.” - Daily Mail
