A lot of people think the Free State is too ‘plat’ to be considered as a hiking trail hot spot, but we’ve got news for you!

Imagine walking through golden hued sandstone cliffs, a sea of uninterrupted horizons, fresh air, blue skies and ancient San rock art, the Free State has got you covered.

1 Holhoek Hiking Trail

Location: Bethlehem

Duration: 2 days

Distance: 13km on the first day and 7km on the second.

 

2 Angel's Wing Trail

Location: Clarens

Duration: 3 days

Distance: Day one no hiking, 11.5 km on the second day and 8km hike back down on day 3.

 

3 Bald Ibis Trail

Location: Harrismith

Duration: 2 days

Distance: 17.7 on the first day and 9km on the second.

 

4 Bushmans Cave Hiking Trail

Location: Fouriesburg

Duration: 2 days

Distance: 9km on the first day and 7km on the second.

 

5 Christmaskrans Hiking Trail

Location: Marquard

Duration: 1 day

Distance: 13km
