Durban pop star Lloyd Cele will be one of 14 top acts at this year's Mr Price Pro Ballito concert. Other acts include the likes of Tamara Dey, Crash Car Burn and Locnville.
Fourteen acts spread over two nights will ensure music fans will be rocking hard under the stars at the free Mr Price Pro Ballito music festival, which now attracts some 15 000 music lovers from around the country.
The big concerts have been scheduled for 4.30pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday, July 6 and 7, at Salt Rock Beach in KwaDukuza.
On Friday, Gangs of Ballet will pave the way for Wonderboom, the Ard Matthews Trio, Shadow Club, aKING, Crash Car Burn and Flash Republic.
On July 7, rising star Toya Delazy will open for Lloyd Cele, iscreamstix, Locnville, Pascal & Pearce, Goodluck and Dino Bravo.
“What an amazing line-up,” said SA Music Awards nominee Tamara Dey from Flash Republic on hearing about the acts assembled.
“Some of my favourite bands are on that list. It’s going to be another really special show this year.”
Top SA electro-pop duo and identical twin brothers Andrew and Brian Chaplin, better known as Locnville, are also looking forward to playing some of their new tunes.
“I can’t wait to play under the stars as most of our songs have to do with astrological things. so it makes perfect sense,” said Andrew.
“I am also amped to finally let people listen to some of the new music we have been working on, I really think it’s going to blow people away.”
The music festival is one of the many highlights of the Mr Price Pro Ballito, an ASP World Tour event featuring the top 96 surfers in the world and offering R2 million in prize money.
The international surfing event, born out of the Gunston 500, has grown from strength to strength at Ballito and has established itself in the hearts and minds of surfers and spectators alike, thanks to the spectacular surf at the venue in recent years.
Current world No 3 surfer and 2010 Mr Price Pro Ballito champion Jordy Smith of Durban is featured in the stellar line-up of international surfers, who will represent 14 nationalities this year.
The Mr Price Pro Beach Festival runs concurrently with the surf and music events, offering a kaleidoscope of activities, from extreme sports to live entertainment and various activities for children.
