Bubbly Uraysha Ramrachia celebrates this years Mercury Wine Week, secure in the knowledge that the event, being held at Durbans Suncoast from August 15-17, will afford her plenty of opportunities to taste a whole range of wines.
As the excitement for this year’s Mercury Wine Week builds, visitors looking to taste more than 700 wines will be relieved to know their favourites will be sold for show special prices.
Tops Avonmore has been announced as the official wine supplier for the event at Durban’s Suncoast between August 15 and 17, meaning the retailer will have a facility for visitors to order and pay for their wines at the end of the evening. Wines will then be ready for collection within a few weeks.
Tops Avonmore manager Debbie Kilian said the Mercury Wine Week show special prices would also be honoured by the outlet for two weeks after the event, offering wine enthusiasts the opportunity to select wines at their leisure after their night out.
More than 80 wineries will be hosting stands during the three-day event, with some also keen to sell wines directly from their stands.
This ensures a variety of purchasing options for the vast array of wines on offer – a range across the spectrum, including sparkling wines, dry whites, spicy fruity reds, syrupy-sweet dessert wines that steal the hearts of most pudding lovers, and the ports and sherries that make outstanding nightcaps.
Among the wines on offer are old favourites like Meerlust, Zevenwacht and Delheim, alongside newer wineries such as Meinert, Paul Cluver, Tokara, Quoin Rock and Post House.
However, since food and wine are natural partners, visitors will also be able to sample quintessential SA biltong from Village Road Biltong, cheese from Fairview and La Petite, and Midlands olives from Romesco. They can also admire the quality of crystal drinking glasses from Crystal Direct.
However, The Mercury Wine Week is not only about wine and self-indulgence. A portion of funds raised goes towards The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Holiday Home.
The home provides orphaned and destitute children with the opportunity to have a seaside holiday – made possible because visitors enjoyed an outstanding evening’s entertainment, potentially topped off with dinner at one of Suncoast’s many restaurants.
Tickets cost R100 each and can be bought through Computicket or at the door, with the show starting daily at 5.30pm.
