Linkin Park's lead singer Chester Bennington. The top US rock band will be performing in South Africa in November, but not in Durban.
The US rock band Linkin Park will be touring SA in November, but will not stop in Durban, apparently because fans in the city are unlikely to fill enough seats to make his financially viable.
There will be concerts in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
“There just isn’t the same demand for acts in Durban,” said John Langford, chief operations officer for the organiser, Big Concerts.
“It is down to economics. Durban buys only 20 to 25 percent of the tickets that Johannesburg buys,” he said.
“Artists are very expensive and we have to cover all their costs.”
A spokesman for Computicket agreed, saying that Joburg and Cape Town sold more tickets than Durban.
Roddy Quinn, owner of Real Concerts, a concert company in Joburg, said Durban was a great venue, but that it was “unpredictable”.
