Hold on to your partner, cheating in SA is on the up.
While Gauteng’s Randfontein has taken the title of the cheating capital of SA, Durban is one of the top 10 cheating hot spots in SA.
That’s according to Noel |Biderman, founder and CEO of AshleyMadison.com, a dating site for people looking for something or someone other than their current partner.
He launched the SA version of the website just under two months ago and it already has more than 96 000 members looking for a little extra something.
“South Africa is our first country that doesn’t have a typical cheater,” he said.
“Of the 23 countries where AshleyMadison.com is based, regional data proves that South African infidelity ranges across the full spectrum of ethnicity and spiritual conviction, to say the least. It has been a whirlwind rolling out in the enormously receptive South African market. At the same time, we are discovering some unique aspects of this territory – the locals cannot be ‘boxed’ into cheating categories.”
Biderman said cheating was on the rise in Durban and Cape Town.
“Durban and Cape Town seem to be cities on the rise in the last few weeks, and with some of the new TV advertising deals we have put in place in those markets, I expect they will both move up the ranking by the end of the year.”
On a list of top 10 cheating hot spots, Durban was ranked number 8, with Randfontein topping the list, followed by Pretoria and Joburg.
Biderman said he had been very surprised by the results.
“I was indeed surprised that Randfontein led the list… not sure exactly what goes on in the drinking water in that city.”
He had also been surprised by another aspect of South Africans’ private lives that had emerged – a higher number of participating gay people.
“So far we have seem a |higher percentage of attached women seeking women and attached men seeking men signing up than we have in other similar countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK.”
