IF LIKE me you’ve by now abandoned your New Year’s resolution to lose weight, you’ll be happy to hear that there are plenty of men out there who like their women large.
An eye-opening (and somewhat bizarre) documentary revealing the women who are happy with their weight, and those who want to get even fatter, premieres on BBC Knowledge (DStv channel 184) at 9pm tomorrow night – it’s called My Big Fat Fetish .
These big, beautiful women are known as “gainers”, and they’re becoming more and more popular with the men who admire them and pay to watch them eat. This programme explores the relationship these women have with their bodies and the food they eat, and reveals what motivates them to this sexual lifestyle.
Kitt is 21 and weighs about 127kg.
She was a tomboy when she was growing up, and always admired fat women. Her boyfriend Wes gets sexual pleasure from her gaining weight, so he regularly feeds her and rubs her belly. Kitt knows this isn’t normal, but feels it’s better to embrace her sexual preferences than repress them.
Patty used to be the queen of the gaining world, weighing about 279kg. She is now too heavy to walk unaided, is virtually immobile, and requires 24/7 care from her son.
She still performs “squashings” for paying punters, where she sits and bounces on them.
My Big Fat Fetish examines how the women ended up in this bizarre industry, and why so many fans are willing to pay money to watch women “gaining”.
This Saturday marks the beginning of the seventh series of Doctor Who on BBC Entertainment (DStv channel 120) at 7.35pm.
Doctor Who offers five big, blockbuster movie episodes – each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you’ve never seen them before.
This series sees the Ponds return for their final voyage with the doctor. They save a spaceship full of dinosaurs, don Stetsons in the wild wild west and are even kidnapped by the doctor’s oldest foe.
But when they arrive in Manhattan, the Weeping Angels are waiting for them – will the doctor really lose Amy and Rory forever? Christmas brings the doctor a new friend but how, where and when will he meet her?
Meanwhile Sony Entertainment Television (DStv channel 127) sees the start of season seven of Friends at 6.40pm tonight. It continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the time slot.
Our favourite New York singletons are back, complete with more hang-ups, quirks and relationship complications than ever. Much of season seven centres on Monica’s (Courteney Cox) and Chandler’s (Matthew Perry) upcoming wedding, which culminates in a must-see season finale that involves a positive pregnancy test and the groom getting cold feet.
As for the others, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) is disappointed when his TV series Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E gets cancelled, but is asked to return to the set of Days of Our Lives– only this time, it’s as a comatose patient with no lines. Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) apartment is rebuilt after the fire and she discovers that she’s a year older than she thought she was. Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) turns 30 and dates a toyboy who also happens to be her assistant at Ralph Lauren. Ross (David Schwimmer) is pleased that his dissertation is in the school library – until he finds out that it’s in the “dead” section where couples go to hook up.
There is also a lot of movies lined-up for the channel, among them I Like It Like That on Wednesday at 8pm.
Lauren Vélez, who can be seen on our screens as Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta in Dexter and who previously featured in Oz, stars in this gritty, authentic and entertaining take on Bronx neighbourhood life.
She plays Lisette, an independent-minded woman who lands a high-powered job after her husband (John Seda – 12 Monkeys, Bad Boys II) is jailed.
Not only does she have three rowdy kids to deal with, but also a transvestite brother, a meddling mother-in-law and the scheming neighbourhood man-eater.
The film, directed by Darnell Martin, is a winner of the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best new director, and nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards.
