Durban - A 26-year-old man wanted for murder was arrested close to President Jacob Zuma’s controversial Nkandla homestead on Wednesday night after being found in possession of four guns.
The events unfolded from about 7pm during the annual Ngoma ceremony at which about 6 000 people, including Zuma, were present.
A police source said a “suspicious” silver-coloured Toyota Corrolla with a Durban registration was seen not far from the entrance to the homestead and members of the police’s Durban K-9 unit were sent to investigate.
The source said four 9mm pistols, one of which had been issued by the police, were found. A man wanted in connection with a murder in Nkandla was arrested.
Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said police had been in pursuit of the man since 2011 for murder, robbery and other crimes.
