The police are searching for two men who posed as delivery men to rob an office at Virginia Airport in Durban North yesterday.
“The two suspects entered an office and demanded cash from the staff at gunpoint,” said Captain Thulani Zwane.
“The incident took place at about 10am. They took an undisclosed amount and fled the scene in their getaway vehicle. No shots were fired and no arrests have been made.”
Durban Air Show spokesman Ray de Vries said the Durban Wings Club, organisers of the upcoming air show, had been robbed.
In the office, he said, one had held the secretary at gunpoint while the other had made a “shhh” sign with his index finger on his lips.
“They were not in there for longer than two minutes, and demanded the keys to the safe, which they then emptied. They left with an unknown amount of money,” De Vries said.
The Mercury asked to see video footage of the incident but De Vries said he had viewed it and it could “only identify the men from belt height and below”.
“The angle of the camera was not good, unfortunately. We could see their hands at one stage but their faces cannot be seen at all,” he said.
