We don't often associate 'green' vehicle technology with bakkies, but Mitsubishi has hinted that it is thinking in this direction by giving us a sneak peek at its GR-HEV concept that will debut in Geneva in March.

Given that it's a one-tonner, the concept could be a foretaste of how the next Triton one-tonner will be styled.

Mitsubishi describes it as a Sport Utility Hybrid Truck that adapts hybrid technology to the demands of a large, tough and sporty vehicle designed with both work and leisure in mind.

No specifications have been released, but Mitsubishi has mentioned a 'clean diesel' engine that works in tandem with electric motors. A CO2 emissions figure of less than 149g/km has been targeted.

The GR-HEV also uses the company's S-AWC permanent four-wheel drive system, which is not something that die-hard off-roaders would appreciate but it will at least ensure better on-road stability.
