When Isuzu launched its new range of KB bakkies, they decided to look beyond the usual ad campaign, to try to create something useful that people would come back to over and over again - thus adding weight to the brand.

Clever marketing, if you can get it right.

So they came up with Isuzu Trail View, an online platform for the 4x4 community. Isuzu provided the KB bakkies, the Offroad Academy provided drivers and ad agency Native climbed aboard to map out 4x4 trails around the country with a 360-degree camera mounted on a KB.

GOING WHERE GOOGLE STREET DOESN’T DARE GO

Native executive director Ryan McManus explained: “Existing content on 4x4 trails is very bland, unlike the real thing, which is such a rich visual and tactile experience.

“So we decided to bring the 4X4 experience to life digitally by providing a trail view of the most challenging 4X4 routes in the country - going where Google Street View doesn't dare to go and preparing 4x4 drivers for the journey and taking them through the entire trail online before they've even checked oil and water.

Embedding a social-media layer lets off-roaders share, post comments, add videos and photos to the site.

McManus said: “The community actually drives the discussion by contributing content and suggesting which 4x4 trails we do next.”
