Jeep has given its Grand Cherokee a comprehensive makeover that entails a lot more than just a few styling tweaks.
The big news on the mechanical front is the fitment of a new eight-speed automatic transmission, which boosts economy in the case of all engine options.
The Americans now have a 3-litre turbodiesel option, which has been available in SA for some time now, while the familiar 210kW 3.6 V6 and 259kW 5.7 V8 petrol engines carry over from the previous range.
The Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction management system has been improved too, the latest system offering five terrain modes, including an auto function that automatically adapts to the situation at hand.
Jeep claims to have fitted the new Grand Cherokee with over 60 advanced safety and security features, including Forward Collision Warning and Rear Cross Path Detection.
Inside there's a redesigned steering wheel and centre stack, the latter housing a new 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Also in place is a customer-configurable multiview cluster display, internet access and a cloud-based voice texting.
On the outside, a totally new front end houses a shorter upper grille and slimmer headlights (now with LED lighting) and the rear end features larger LED taillights, a redesigned tailgate and a bigger spoiler.
