You’ve seen the professionals do it on TV, now Shell Helix is offering its customers around the world the opportunity to put their driving skills to the test and see if they have what it takes to handle a 4x4 in extreme driving conditions.

The Driven to Extremes programme has evolved into a worldwide search for a world champion willing to put their driving skills and courage to the test.

Participants will have the chance to experience some of the extreme driving conditions that celebrities such as Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody and Mika Salo experienced in the Driven to Extremes TV series that aired on the Discovery Channel in March.

South African off-road enthusiasts can take part in this global test by entering the promotion at participating motoring shops, Shell service stations or taking the challenge online.

The competition closes on June 30.

South Africa’s finalists will be joined by winners from around the world when they gather in Cape Town in November to face three days of extreme driving challenges, under the guidance and instruction of some of the world’s top off-road driving instructors.

The five-night adventure will begin from the moment the contestants arrive in Cape Town. They will be treated to five-star luxury accommodation at the V&A Waterfront.

Participants will test their skill, accuracy and 4x4 vehicle control over a testing dune course, tackle a challenging mountain track drive and a nerve-testing obstacle course.

Contestants will be scored in each challenge in a bid to become the Driven to Extremes world champion. - Drive Times
