Suzuki's cheeky little Jimny 4x4 has been given an (entirely cosmetic) mid-life facelift, aimed at giving this long-running all-rounder a little more presence, as well as upgrading the interior.

The front treatment sees the biggest changes, with a new bonnet (complete with air scoop and power bulge!), a revised grille with more businesslike, squared-off apertures and a chunkier front bumper with a larger lower air intake, repositioned foglights and a scuff plate on its leading edge.

The drivetrain still has Suzuki's proven 1328 cc transverse four mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a low-range transfer case, while standard kit includes aircon, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors, power steering and a radio/CD player.

However, there are new head restraints all round, redesigned for improved comfort and support, according to Suzuki, and, from a more pragmatic point of view, to allow the rear seats to be folded flat without having to remove them.

There's “smarter cloth trim” (what makes one piece of fabric more intelligent that another?) for the seats, new IsoFix child seat anchors (no jokes about that) and a new metallic blue point option.

All of which pushes the price up from R192 900 to R198 900, which includes a three-year or 100 000km warranty and four-year or 60 000km service plan.
