Given that it's as tough as a barbarian warrior and capable of crawling to just about any corner of earth, Land Rover seldom tinkers with the mechanical bits and pieces beneath its Defender 4x4.

Thankfully the same blind eye has been cast over the 2013 upgrade, which is purely focussed on cosmetics and interior comfort.

As far as exterior decoration is concerned, the latest Landy gets the option of two new body colours - Barolo Black and Havana - and four new contrast roof colours (Santorini Black, Indus Silver, Orkney Grey and Firenze Red).

Buyers not keen to visit their chiropractor after a lengthy bush expedition can now opt for a more comfortable premium seat design. Singing to the hyenas will also be a thing of the past thanks to an upgraded Alpine audio system.

The Defender's mechanicals remain unchanged, following last year's fitment of a new 90kW/360Nm 2.2-liter diesel engine and ventilated brake discs.
