Euro NCAP five-star awards and maximum front impact scores used to be the preserve of big, heavy cars but now the Peugeot 1007 has rewritten this rule. It has achieved the highest score recorded by a supermini since Euro NCAP began testing vehicles in 1997.

The modular design of the 1007 not only gives its users unmatched accessibility but also provides class-leading all round protection. The unique design of the structure and the fitting of a single electric sliding door on each side of the vehicle create a structural barrier that provides protection in both a front and side impact.

Unlike a conventional door, the electric sliding door provides a structural brace positively located in the door aperture.

The 1007 also has seven crash bags as standard equipment - one of which is mounted on the steering column - anti-submarining seats, pre-tensioned seatbelts with force limiters and Isofix child seat fixtures that comply with the new three-point fixing standards.

- The Peugeot 1007 will be launched in South Africa in September 2005: it has already picked up two prestigious British automotive awards - Top Gear's "Best Small Car" for 2005 and the Autocar "Idea of the Year" 2004.
