East London - This is where Africa Bike Week 2017 will happen; after eight years in a friendly but increasingly crowded Margate on KwaZulu-Natal's south coast, South Africa's biggest free motorcycle event is moving to the Buffalo City.

The date hasn't moved, however - it'll all be happening over the Freedom Day long weekend, Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 April, hoisted as always by Harley-Davidson and open to bike enthusiasts everywhere, their families and friends from across South Africa and around the world.

Don't expect to get much sleep - it'll be a nonstop four-day party, with live performances by top bands and entertainers, world-class stunt shows, custom bike shows, demo rides on the latest Harley-Davidson models, dozens of stalls selling everything from bikes to biker bling, safety kit and even insurance, as well as a huge variety of food and drinks.

On parade

But the real Bike Week is on the main beach road, which will be closed to four-wheeled traffic (except beer trucks!) for the duration, with literally thousands of motorcycles parked mirror to mirror, wearing every maker's badge you've ever heard of and a few you haven't, as their riders stroll up and down, meeting and greeting friends old and new, and admiring the work that has gone into the glittering custom machines that have become the signature feature of Africa Bike Week.

And these are not show bikes; most of them will be on parade for the climax of Africa Bike Week, what is claimed to be the biggest mass ride in Africa on Sunday morning - a ride so big that in Margate the leading riders used to arrive at the end venue, 12 kilometres away, before the last bikes left the start!

What is new, however, is that for the first time, you stand a chance to win a brand new Harley-Davidson when you pre-register for Africa Bike Week 2017 online .
