Some world record attempts are more hazardous than others; all it takes to set a world record for dominoes is a lot of patience and a very big hall with no draughts.

But this is one of the most dangerous categories in the Guinness Book of World Records - riding a motorcycle through a tunnel of fire. The current mark is 68.49 metres, set by Indian Superbike racer Shabir Ahluwalla.

On Friday evening South African stunt team Enrico Schoeman and Andre' de Kock will attempt to ride a Kawasaki-powered Australian Sidecar through a fire tunnel of 85 metres, on the main street of Vaalwater in Limpopo Province.

The record attempt will form part of the town's annual Game Festival; coordinator Retha van der Merwe explained: "The Game Festival is extremely important for Vaalwater. We try to present visitors with attention-grabbing events - and they don't come much more attention-grabbing than a fire-tunnel ride."

The high-temperature sprint will be run at 7.30pm on Friday; traffic on the main road into Vaalwater will be diverted from about 5pm.

Other Game Festival activities include a motorcycle rally, the Waterberg Mountain Bike Challenge, an African Bow Hunting contest, 4x4 Extreme Driving, Strongman Shows and a rock concert featuring Watershed, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Nadine, Rickie Faber, Snotkop & Suzanne, Lianie May and Romanz.
