Kawasaki has given its mid-sized ZX-6R sports bike, winner of this year’s World Supersport Championship, a power boost for 2013.

Engine capacity has been raised to 636cc for an additional 2.2kW and 4.3Nm of torque. The maximum outputs of 102kW (with ram air) and 71Nm will also occur at lower revs, improving bottom-end grunt and mid-range surge.

A new race-derived slipper clutch reduces back-wheel patter under hard deceleration, while allowing a 20 percent lighter clutch action than on the 2012 bike.

The new middleweight Ninja also boasts a three-mode traction-control system that can be set for varying riding conditions, whether tiptoeing through bad weather or thrashing around a racetrack. The suspension and brakes have also been tweaked.

The bike will go on sale in South Africa next month at a price which has yet to be announced. -Mercury Motoring
