Audi has confirmed that its A4 allroad quattro will be released in South Africa in February 2013.

With its tough-guy allroad styling, all-wheel drive and S tronic transmission, Audi describes the new A4 allroad as a crossover estate car. It combines all the versatility of the A4 Avant with true lifestyle appeal.

This is not just an A4 Avant with all-wheel drive; its raised ride height and stainless-steel underbody guard, taller body, specially developed suspension, the latest generation quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system and ESP off-road detection - which detects the condition of the driving surface and adapts the stabilisation control system accordingly - give it genuine off-road credentials.

BASH PLATES

It looks different too, thanks to the stainless bash plates, and single-frame grille with vertical chromed bars and special 'allroad' rims, while sharing the redesigned headlights and the distinctively shaped bumper of the revised Audi A4 launched earlier this year.

The allroad quattro's cargo bay holds 490 litres with the rear seats in use and up to 1430 with them folded; optional features include a load-securing package and a power-operated tailgate.

ENGINE OPTIONS

Allroad customers will be able to choose between two four-cylinder options - a two-litre TDI, rated at 130kW and 380Nm (at a cost of six litres per 100km), or a two-litre TFSI, good for 155kW, 350Nm and 7.3 litres per 100km, with quattro permanent all-wheel drive, torque vectoring and idle stop standard in both cases.

Standard kit also includes headlight washers, colour driver information display, cruise control, brushed-aluminium roof rails, window trim surround and stone covers, auto dimming interior mirror, rain and lights sensors and Bluetooth connectivity.

Audi SA's order book for the A4 allroad quattro is already open; prices will be announced when they get here in February 2013.
