Munich, Germany - Much to the dismay of some well-heeled DTM fanatics, the BMW M4 DTM Championship Edition is not coming to South Africa, but we though it would be worth a peek anyway.

The car was created in honour of BMW's Marco Wittmann, who has won this year's DTM championship. Launched to a surprised and elated Wittmann on the evening after the final race of the year, the limited edition (only 23 are to be built) will prowl around in the colours of the 24-year-old German driver's Ice-Watch DTM race car.

Its bold colour scheme thus includes a striped bonnet and boot, the number '23' on the doors and some race lettering on the rear side windows.

While there are no engine mods to speak of (who's complaining about the standard version's ferocious 317kW six-cylinder turbopetrol?) the Championship Edition is also set apart by a glut of additional lightweight and aerodynamic components.

These include a diffuser insert, mirror caps and front flaps made from carbon, black front splitter and side skirt blade as well as 19-inch alloy wheels.

Upon entry, owners will also be greeted by Wittmann's autograph on the door sill plates and interior trim strips as well as “DTM Champion 2014 lettering.”

Naturally, Wittmann has also had his contract extended for “the next season and beyond” and as a further bonus, BMW has pulled some strings with Toro Rosso to allow the young gun to complete an F1 test - fulfilling a childhood dream.
