The strength of the BMW M4 Coupé is evident in every detail.
BMW has just introduced the world to the production version of its new 4 Series Coupe and as we expected, it doesn't look too different to the concept car that was revealed six months ago.
4 Series might be an all new name within the BMW stable, but the car actually replaces the 3 Series Coupe directly.
Cutting a sportier profile, the new 4 is considerably lower than its 3 Series Coupe predecessor and it has also grown in width and wheelbase.
Yet aesthetically it retains close links to the current 3 Series saloon.
The same can be said of its mechanicals and at launch, European models will be available with the familiar range of four- and six-cylinder turbocharged engines.
The most enticing option, until the M4 breaks cover, is the 435i with its 3-litre, six-cylinder turbopetrol engine.
With 225kW and 400Nm on tap, it'll dart to 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds in rear-wheel drive guise, while the all-wheel drive xDrive model takes just 4.9 sec.
The more affordable petrol option is the 428i, with a 180kW/350Nm 2-litre, while diesel fans can opt for a 135kW/380Nm 420d that sips just 4.7 l/100km on the EU combined cycle.
All engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and all are available with BMW's eight-speed autobox.
As with its sedan sibling, the 4 Series will be available in four packages, stretching from Sport Line, Modern Line and Luxury Line through to the bolder M Sport package.
There's also a long list of gadgets available, including the new generation Navigation System Professional with 3D elements, full-colour head-up display, Driving Assistant Plus and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality.
