BMW Z4 makeover packs on the colour

BMW is hoping to get its current Z4 back into the small roadster spotlight with a mild makeover that makes it a bit more colourful, individual and affordable.

Set to strut its stuff at the Detroit Motor Show in January, the revised Z4 range receives a new entry-level engine in the form of BMW's 2-litre TwinPower turbocharged petrol engine that we know from the latest 3 Series.

Sadly, BMW has elected to clip its claws by limiting its output to just 115kW. Other variations of this engine in the BMW range make 135kW, 160kW and 180kW. Its longevity should be a plus factor, if nothing else.

Though no real changes have been made to the styling, BMW is offering a new Design Pure Traction package that allows customers to choose between three brand new and exclusive exterior colours. In the cabin, BMW promises a "particularly absorbing contrast of colours" with black and orange tones.

Rounding off the changes are new alloy wheel designs (17- and 18-inch) and buyers also have the option of an M Sport package.

This latest Z4 should reach South Africa in the first half of 2013, although the exact line-up has yet to be confirmed.
