Johannesburg - BMW South Africa is now offering higher top speeds in seven of its hottest new M models, as an optional extra.

The M Driver’s Package, as the upgrade is called, allows for maximum speeds in M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé and M4 Convertibles to be lifted from 250km/h to 280; and in M5 Sedan, M6 Gran Coupé, M6 Coupé and M6 Convertibles the limit is upped to 305km/h.

The speed increase will be activated once a vehicle reaches a 2000km run-in distance, and after a run-in inspection has been completed.

The M Driver’s Package is also available as a retrofit for owners already driving these models, as well as previous generation (E92) M3s.

Outgoing X5 M and X6 M SUVs are also upgradable at BMW dealerships. The option is priced at R25 000 for M3 and M4, and R35 000 (R17 500 in conjunction with Competition Package) in M5 and M6 derivatives.
