GM's Australian division Holden has unveiled its latest Commodore sedan, at least in high-spec Calias V form. We'll have to wait another week to see the US-bound Chevrolet-badged SS version, which will likely replace the Lumina SS in South Africa.
The sad news, however, is that this will be the last-ever Australian-designed rear-wheel drive sedan. GM has confirmed that the 2017 Commodore, although still built down under, will be based on a global platform and rumours abound that it will be a front-wheel drive platform.
Nevermind, the 2013 VF Commodore that you see here builds on the attributes of its predecessor (it's essentially a heavy facelift), while adding a more modern style to the front and rear ends, a smarter interior and an avalanche of new technology.
All models will feature the 'self-parking' Auto Park Assist gadget and other available features include Reverse Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Alert, Head-Up display, the MyLink infotainment system and many more.
"When it goes on sale, it will offer levels of quality and sophistication to rival some of the best cars in the world," Holden's MD Mike Devereux promised.
No engine details have been released as yet, but a range of V6 and V8 petrol options is a dead cert. It will be more efficient too, thanks to the adoption of more lightweight materials.
