Paris - Citroën wants to light up your life with its upgraded DS3.

Besides gaining some frugal new engines and personalisation options, the racy little hatch will shine its way through the crowded boutique hatch market with a high-tech headlight design.

In what Citroën calls a world first, the new headlights combine LED and Xenon technologies with sequential indicators.

Inspired by the headlights on the recent Wild Rubis concept, the lights are made up of independent modules designed to look like diamonds. It's far more than just for show, however, as the LED/Xenon combo are said to create a powerful and wide view, while also reducing energy consumption.

Below the main lights you'll see a long strip of LED daytime running lights integrated into the front air intakes.

Citroën hasn't gone into much detail about the new engines, but you can expect them to be more frugal than before, particularly the 89kW BlueHDi 120 and 74kW BlueHDi 100 units, which boast Selective Catalytic Reduction that cuts NOx emissions by 90 percent.

Active City Brake technology, which automatically avoids low-speed accidents, is now offered on the DS3.

For those seeking a unique touch, Citroën is offering new personalisation options, highlights being the new laser-engraved dashboard strip and screen-printed rear window.

So when's it coming? No doubt it will hit our shores, but we're currently waiting to find out when.
