Ferrari has officially confirmed that it will be unveiling the successor to the Enzo at the end of this year and that it will be a hybrid car.

Towards the tail end of a media statement that mostly boasts about global sales figures (up 31 percent in the UK) and record net income figures, Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo reveals something that's really of interest:

“At the end of the year, we'll also be unveiling the new Enzo, a limited series model and our first ever hybrid car.”

While there's still quite a wait ahead until we can know all the juicy details, international media sources report that this new Enzo will have at least 520kW on command.

Ferrari also previewed the petrol electric hybrid system that it's working on, Hy-Kers, at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. The system is said to cut CO2 emissions by as much as 40 percent.

It does this without chopping off cylinders as the powertrain shown in China still makes use of a V12 petrol engine, which is mated to a dual-clutch transmission and an electric motor. There's also a second electric motor right up front, which takes care of auxiliary systems.
