Cape Town - Easily the most eagerly anticipated launch of the year is underway this week as Ford unleashes its pony car in South Africa after depriving us of it for decades.

The all-new muscle car that you see here has morphed into a global product and local models, available in right hand-drive for the first time, will be offered with a potent 306kW/530Nm 5-litre V8 engine that makes it the most powerful Ford ever to be sold in SA.

While we can't picture anyone wanting a Mustang without a V8, local buyers can also opt for a more economical 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol engine, rated at a still-pretty-decent 223kW and 430Nm.

MUSTANG PRICES:

2.3 Ecoboost Fastback - R699 900

2.3 EcoBoost Fastback AT - R719 900

2.3 EcoBoost Convertible AT - R779 900

5.0 GT Fastback - R819 900

5.0 GT Fastback AT - R839 900
