Shelby Focus ST is all about style

This is not your standard Ford Focus ST; this one has been customised by the muscle-car junkies at Shelby American. Say hello to the 2013 Shelby Focus ST, an unexpected addition to the Shelby stand at the Detroit motor show.

Engine upgrades are limited to a Borla cat-back exhaust system and engine output is a conservative 185kW, although Shelby has promised and engine tuning package later this year.

The running gear benefits to the tune of upgraded brakes, lowered sports suspension, and special rims and tyres.

But mostly the Shelby package is about style:

It includes a ventilated bonnet, hydro-carbon grille inserts and a rear spoiler - plus a choice of three different graphics packages, starting with traditional go-fast stripes and moving on from there.

Inside you'll find custom upholstery with the Shelby logo on the seat-backs, a special Shelby gear-lever knob and a numbered plaque; only 500 of these pretentious little shopping trolleys will be built each year.

And how much do you pay for a Focus ST that's been customised at the second-most famous chicken ranch in the world?

The Shelby Focus ST package starts at $14 995 (R133 000) and that does not include the cost of the base car.
