Zombie-proof Veloster brought to life

If there is one place that fantasies - no matter how outrageous - come to life, it's the San Francisco Comic-Book Convention.

And that's where this 'customised' Hyundai Veloster appeared, on a display stand entitled Future US, which depicts what everyday life would be like in the post-apocalyptic world of the Walking Dead series, when zombies have taken over the world.

The Zombie Survival Machine was purpose-built by Galpin Auto Sports with forged-alloy rims and textured orange paint, and armed with a sawtooth grille, two chainsaws in quick-change mountings on the front bumpers, bonnet-mounted machine guns, a flame-thrower on the driver's door and a roof-mounted .50-calibre Browning.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

There's a nail-studded baseball bat in clips on the tailgate, just in case the undead get up close and personal, along with a samurai sword and knife blades deployed from the off-road style rear bumper.

The occupants are protected by steel bars and barbed wire welded across the windows, and sandbags strapped to the bonnet, while the interior walls are reinforced with steel plates containing lots of storage boxes for ammunition, field medical kits and additional weaponry. The floor has also been sprayed with polyurethane bakkie liner so that it doesn't get slippery when covered in zombie blood.
