Until now Jaguar has pretty much let the Germans dominate the super-saloon game and its so-called power war.

Look, the XFR's outputs of 375kW and 625Nm are nothing to be sniffed at, but the Brit does fall a little short of the 412kW/680Nm BMW M5 and Merc's 386kW/700Nm E 63 AMG.

No fret, Jaguar is about to intensify its fight.

On 28 November the company plans to pull the covers off the XFR-S at the Los Angeles Auto Show and just to whet our appetites, they've released a teaser shot and a few promising sentences.

Jaguar assures us that it will be the fastest and most powerful saloon that the company has ever produced, but we'll have to wait until the reveal to tell you how much power it has.

404kW LIKELY

But given that the Jaguar XKR has the same outputs as the XFR, it's very likely that the XFR-S will use the same uprated version of Jaguar's supercharged 5-litre V8 found in the XKR-S, which puts out 404kW and 680Nm.

That's still a little short of the M5, but close enough for our liking.
