Coventry, England - If you planned to buy the new Project 7 special edition, which is the fastest modern Jaguar, it's too late.

Jaguar says that this hot new special edition, based on the refreshed F-Type R Convertible, has completely sold out.

All 250 examples of the strictly limited radical roadster have been allocated to customers, said Jaguar, with European prices starting at 155 000 euros (R2.2 million).

Much of the F-type droptop has been re-engineered to cope with the tuned, supercharged V8 engine, which kicks out 423kW and 680Nm.

Jaguar says the Project 7 will run from zero to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and charge on to an electronically limited top speed of 300km/h.

The rorty Jaguar has a fin behind the driver's bucket seat which harks back to the legendary D-type racing cars. Various aerodynamic styling features include a massive rear wing.

In order to save weight, the car comes with a rudimentary cloth roof which must be raised by hand. With the top up, an electronic device limits top speed for safety reasons to 160 km/h.
