The rumour mill is working overtime this April: the latest one comes from a Chrysler insider, who says Jeep may be considering building a hot-rod Wrangler.

What is not a rumour is that American Expedition Vehicles put together a one-off V8 Wrangler for Jeep CEO Mike Manley, motivated by a 6.4-litre Hemi rated at 350kW and 637Nm - the same engine, in fact, that'll power the Grand Cherokee SRT8 when it debuts at the New York motor show.

Now it's being muttered around Chryslertown that the Hemi Wrangler was built for "evaluation purposes", and not just as an executive playtoy - which implies that either it's a tax dodge or Chrysler is considering a production model.

Yes, please.

It's not impossible; as long ago as 2007 Chrysler shoehorned a Hemi into a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and called it the Wrangler Ultimate concept - and that's actually what you're looking at here.
