Fort Washington, Pennsylvania - Overshadowed as it is by the more expensive 911 GT3, Porsche's Cayman GT4 may just be the most underrated sports car on the planet.

Simply put, it has the classic naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre flat six out of the 911 Carrera S, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox rather than the Carrera's PDK dual-clutch transmission and mid-mounted (for perfect balance) in the lighter, more agile Cayman shell.

That gives it comparable performance to the 911 GT3 for a lot less money - and, without the delicate sensibilities of the dual-clutch control module to worry about, there's a lot more badass to be safely had from Porsche's best non-turbo engine.

Which is where the performance junkies at Fabspeed in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania got in on the act. They put one of their custom-built free-flow exhaust systems on the standard silver Cayman GT4 you see in the pictures, remapped the ECU to suit and got dyno figures of 287kW and 455Nm - at the back wheels!

That translates to about 332kW at the crankshaft, compared to 283kW for the as-issued Cayman GT4, which takes it out of the GT3 performance realm and into the 911 GT3 RS class.
