Stuttgart, Germany - In the Porsche lexicon 'Platinum Edition' denotes a specially-equipped model with a raft of standard features that would usually be extra-cost options, as well as a few that aren't even in the options book.
In the case of the Cayenne Platimum Edition, announced this week in Stuttgart, that means a high-gloss exterior trim package, body colour wheel-arch flares over 20 inch RS Spyder rims, and leather sports seats with the Porsche logo embossed on their head restraints, Alcantara synthetic suede centre panels and eight-way electric adjustment.
Standard kit includes adaptive bi-xenon headlights, adaptive power steering, and front and rear park assist that not only beeps at you when you get too close to the adjacent topography, but also shows you pictures of what you're about to hit on the centre-stack display.
Not only the rear-view mirror but also both exterior mirrors come with an automatic anti-glare feature, while tinted glass aft of the B pillar offers extra privacy to rear-seat passengers.

You also get special stainless-steel door sill plates with 'Platinum Edition' lettering (backlit on hybrid models!) the latest in-house infotainment system with online navigation and a Connect Plus module, a Bose surround sound audio system and a specially-designed analogue dashboard clock.
Hybrid models even come with a stationary heating/air-conditioning function.
The three-litre V6 in the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition is rated at 193kW, while the combined output of the three-litre turbopetrol v6 and the electric motor in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Edition is quoted at 306kW.
The kicker is that, while the numbers aren't limited, Platinum Edition models aren't available for very long, so the early bird definitely gets the special car.
The Cayenne and Cayenne S E-Hybrid Platinum Editions are available to order now for delivery from June 2016. South African pricing will be confirmed next week.
