It's been 40 years since Porsche unleashed its first 911 Turbo and to mark the occasion, the boys in Stuttgart have just revealed the all-new 'Type 991' generation 911 Turbo and Turbo S.

Set to go on sale in South Africa in the fourth quarter of this year, the force-fed Porsches are powered by a 3.8-litre direct injection twin-turbo that pelts out 383kW in the Turbo and 412kW in the Turbo S.

3.1 SECONDS TO 100

According to Porsche, the S (when fitted with the Sport Chrono Package Plus) will screech from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.1 seconds, while the standard Turbo will take 3.2 sec - still 0.1 sec quicker than the previous Turbo S mind you.

Find a long enough stretch of quiet asphalt and both will reach a top speed of 317km/h.

The boxer engine's fire-power is channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox and a newly-developed all-wheel drive system which has an electronically controlled and activated multi-plate clutch. Thanks to a new water-cooling function, the system can now direct more torque to the front wheels if deemed necessary.

REAR-WHEEL STEERING

For the ultimate in grip and pin-sharp agility, the Turbo models are kitted with an active rear-axle steering system as well as adaptive aerodynamics and they hug the road with 20-inch rims.

What this all means in plain English - or German for that matter - is that the Turbo S can run around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in well under 7m30s, according to Porsche.

Plenty of unique design features mark the Turbos out from the rest of the range, including full-LED headlights on the Turbo S and both models have rear body panels that are 28mm wider than those on the Carrera 4.

Inside you'll find a Bose Surround Sound audio system and the Turbo S offers a bespoke Black/Carrera Red colour combination as well as Sport Seats Plus with 18-way electric adjustment.

Prices will be announced closer to launch date, but if you have to ask…
