.

Porsches GT3 RS is not only fast in a straight line, its also supreme at stopping fast says a German magazine.

How long does it take to stop a car doing 300km/h?

This was the challenge leading German motoring publication Sport Auto held recently, with the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 - with a stopping time of 6.5 seconds - proving to be the king of the brake test. The previous record holder of the annual challenge was a Koenigsegg Agera R, stopping from 300km/h in 6.66 seconds.

Other cars pitted against the stopping power of Stuttgart included the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the McLaren MP4-12C, Jaguar's XKR-S and the latest Bentley Continental GT.

The GT3 RS 4.0 boasts a flat-six, naturally-aspirated engine making 368kW. The low kerb weight of 1360kg played a role in the amazing stopping time.

The GT3's no slouch out of the blocks either, taking 3.6 seconds to get from standstill to 100km/h and lapping the Nurburgring in seven minutes and 27 seconds. - Drive Times

Scary bit is that the stopping distance is about 270m if a linear deceleration is assumed. (At 300kmh a vehicle travels at 83 ms)
