Suzuki has released a teaser aimed at getting us excited about a new concept car that will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in early September.

Suzuki says that this iV-4 concept shows the direction to be taken by a future model that will be added to the company's SUV portfolio.

Information is scarce at this stage, but Suzuki is said to be working on a small SUV to slot beneath the latest SX-4.

Given the current market trends, it's almost certain that it will be car-based - which means it won't be a genuine off roader in the same sense at the Jimny.

The production model, due in 2015, will instead tackle the likes of Nissan's Juke and Ford's Ecosport in the booming compact crossover market.

It will likely be based on the Swift hatchback's platform and make use of the company's latest 1.4- and 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines.

However, the concept car still retains some of Suzuki's traditional SUVs, including a clamshell bonnet and grille with five vertical stacks.
