Prospecton, Durban - Toyota is again celebrating the Hilux's achievement in the world's toughest race - the Dakar Rally - by producing a limited-edition Dakar model.
The 2014 Dakar Edition, in Toyota showrooms now, is available across three engine ranges, all body styles - single cab, extra cab and double cab - and comes with a raft of special features.
These start with a nudge bar, a styling (roll-over) bar, matching side steps and a rear step-up bumper incorporating a tow-bar - all in polished, oval section stainless-steel tubing.
BLACK LEATHER
Smokey grey 17" alloys replace the normal metal-finish hoops and all Dakar Editions come standard with a matt black tonneau cover as well as body colour (in place of the usual chromed) side-mirror housings and door handles.
Move indoors and you find seats and door inserts in black leather with red contrast stitching, as well as a rear-view camera linked to the display infotainment centre on all three-litre and four-litre double cab variants, as well as the extra cab Dakar Editions.
And, of course, it wouldn't be a special edition without Dakar badging on the nudge bar, styling bar, side steps and tailgate.
