When you ask a top Nascar driver to customise a family sedan, you can take it for granted the result is not going to be a quiet ride.

This attitudinous street racer started life as a 2012 Toyota Camry SE - until Kyle 'Rowdy' Busch was invited to take part in the Toyota Racing Dream Build Challenge, the results of which will be displayed at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Busch has notched up 104 race wins across all three of Nascar's top series, so the “Rowdy Edition” Camry is as much about go as it is about show.

Busch said: “Our approach to the build was to make a car with the stance, attitude and handling of a race car while retaining the functionality of a production Camry.”

BUILT IN THE HEART OF NASCAR COUNTRY

The modifications were done by Detroit Speed & Engineering in Mooresville, North Carolina - the heart of Nascar country, with hands-on input from Busch all the way.

The body work included a hand-made, one-off wide-body kit, custom front and rear belly pans; front splitter and rear diffuser designed and made in-house, and a complete dual exhaust system, from the manifolds back.

Busch said afterwards: “This looks like something we should run at Daytona or Talladega!”

His team colours are black, red, and white, so that's the colour scheme for the Rowdy Edition as well, inside as well as out, with black and red bucket Lexus IS F bucket seats completing the look.
