Kempten, Bavaria - With a drive speed off the tee of more than 300km/h, golf is one of the fastest ball games in the lexicon of sport.

And if you want a 'Golf car(t)' that's just as fast, talk to Hans-Jürgen Abt. After a visit to his Bavarian 'driving range' the Golf 7 R delivers a whopping 294kW - 33 percent up on the standard-issue 221kW, with an extra 100Nm as well, up from 380 to 480.

Abt doesn't give much technical detail; he says all it takes is his 'New Generation' Power S engine control unit, a free-flowing catalytic converter and an Abt auspuff with four, count them, four tailpipes each about the same diameter as a golf hole (101mm, to be exact).

What you need now is the right outfit.

In the Abt-tuned Golf 7 that includes special headlight covers and a body-coloured grille, mirror housings, side skirts and tailgate spoiler, with an in-house height-adjustable suspension kit to keep you on the fairway even at full drive, running on your choice of custom rims shod with 225/40 R18, 225/35 R19 or 235/30 R20 radials respectively.

And yes, Cyril, Abt reckons his Golf 7 R is as fast as, or faster than, that 300km/h tee shot.
