Herbie's back - but only in Spain!

Some cars are just too cute for their own good - like this special-edition Beetle, the Escarabago 53. Of course, the number and the white spray-job with red and blue go-fast stripes give it away: it's derived from the star of the Love Bug films, Herbie.

It comes with special badging (including a plaque on the glove-compartment lid) 17” alloy rims and some extra features, starting from €22,090 (R248 000).

It will be available with a choice of one petrol and two TDI diesel engines, starting with a 77kW, 1.2-litre TSI, and including a 77kW, 1.6-litre TDI and a 103kW, two-litre TDI.

And the name? It's the Spanish word for a beetle, because, sadly, the Beetle 53 Edition will only be available in Spain.

Who knew the Love Bug movies were so popular in the land of bullfights and flamenco?
