MTM gives VW Amarok a V8 boost

Wettstetten, Germany - Amarok fans, meet your dream bakkie!

While fans have been calling on VW to launch a 3.0 TDI version of its Amarok, German tuner MTM has taken things to another level altogether.

In fact, MTM has unleashed the beastliest Volkswagen bakkie to date (outside of drag racing circles, of course) by essentially doubling the quantity of engine beneath its boxy bonnet.

In this case, the Amarok's standard 132kW/400Nm 2.0 TDI has been replaced by a 4.2-litre V8 TDI turbodiesel.

Pushing 306kW and a heady 930Nm of twist, the MTM Amarok will allegedly sprint from 0-100km/h in just six seconds and reach a top speed of 222km/h.

Naturally, a standard bakkie chassis designed primarily to haul loads would not be much help in keeping all this urge under control on the road, which is why the tuner replaced the leaf spring rear axle with a Panhard rod combined with air springs.

MTM also threw away the standard rear drum brakes in favour of its own set of discs, while the front discs were replaced by MTM's 405x36mm units.

Finally, to ensure that this heavily beefed-up Amarok looks like the king of the urban jungle that it's clearly designed for, the tuner has stuffed the wheel-arches with a set of 22-inch BBM SV alloy wheels, shod in Michelin Latitude 295/40 22s rubber.
