Hot hatch fans eat your heart out - the first official pictures of the Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI have hit the web ahead of its reveal in Paris on Thursday.

Although this is officially a concept car, the road-going car that's due to hit world markets early next year should be just about identical to what you see here.

Same goes for the technical specifications. Here we see a new 2-litre turbopetrol engine that pushes 162kW and 350Nm - up from the current model's 155kW/280Nm outputs.

GO-FASTER PACK

But wait - as they say in the infomercials - there's more. VW will reportedly offer a performance package that bumps the power up to 169kW.

The standard model, says VW, will run from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds (0.3s quicker than the current one) and reach a top end of 246km/h. With the performance pack fitted you can expect a marginally quicker 6.5s 0-100 and 250km/h top speed.

As you'd expect, the GTI offers lowered and modified suspension and a distinctive (but not-too-radical) body kit. As always, we’ll bring you more information when it becomes available.
