Pretoria - The Volvo V40 Cross Country will soon be available with the maker's new 180kW  Drive-E engine, an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shift - and all-wheel drive.

Dr Peter Mertens, senior vice-president for research and Development, said: “With 180kW and 350Nm, the Volvo V40 Cross Country delivers excellent power and capability.

"The combination of the Drive-E T5 engine with all-wheel drive will give adventurous customers the power to explore, and all the control they need to be confident in difficult road conditions."

CLEAN RUNNING

Since their introduction in 2013, Volvo's innovative Drive-E turbopetrol fours have made a name for themselves with their combination of power and clean running.

Volvo quotes the V40 Cross Country T5 AWD's emissions at 149g/km - lower than the Audi Q3 TFSI Quattro (179g/km), the BMW X1 xDrive20i xLine auto (170g/km) or the Mercedes-Benz B-class (SUV) 220 Sport 4Matic DCT (156g/km).

Other upgrades include diamond-cut 19” Damara alloy rims, for improved comfort and off-road capability with less noise and improved rim protection, and an updated infotainment and navigation system, Sensus Connect - making the latest V40 a fully connected car.

The V40 Cross Country T5 is expected to arrive in South Africa early in 2015. Full specification and pricing details will be confirmed closer to the time.
